Samba, Beaches & Amazon Rainforest
About This Guide
Brazil is South America's giant — diverse, vibrant, and unforgettable. From Rio's iconic beaches and Christ the Redeemer (completed 1931) to the mighty Amazon rainforest (covering 40% of the country), from Salvador's Afro-Brazilian culture to Iguazu's thundering falls, Brazil captivates at every scale.
Inside the Guide
Every location is covered with practical tips, maps, and curated recommendations.
Christ the Redeemer (one of the New Seven Wonders), Sugarloaf Mountain, Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, Carnaval, and the world's most dramatic urban setting.
The world's largest tropical rainforest covering 5.5 million km². Accessed from Manaus — jungle lodges, river cruises, wildlife spotting, and indigenous communities.
275 individual waterfalls stretching 2.7 km — wider than Victoria, taller than Niagara. See from both the Brazilian and Argentine sides for the complete experience.
Afro-Brazilian cultural heart. The Pelourinho colonial district (UNESCO), capoeira, candomblé religion, and an infectious energy unlike anywhere in Brazil.

Domestic flights essential — Brazil is the size of a continent. Buses comfortable for medium distances. Uber/99 in cities. Amazon requires boats or small planes.
Stay alert in cities. Don't display valuables or expensive cameras. Use official taxis/Uber. Beaches: watch your belongings. Most tourist areas are safe.
February/March. Book accommodation 6–12 months ahead — prices triple. Rio's Sambodromo parade, street blocos, and Salvador's street carnival are different experiences.

Moderate prices. Hotels $50–120. Meals $8–20. Domestic flights $100–200. Amazon tours expensive but worth it. Carnaval period prices spike dramatically.
