Practical Information
The Subway runs 24/7 — get an OMNY card or use contactless payment. Walking in Manhattan is ideal. Yellow cabs/Uber everywhere. Avoid driving.
Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge walk, Times Square, MoMA, Met Museum, 9/11 Memorial, High Line.
Book ahead for top shows. TKTS booth for same-day discounts (Times Square, South Street Seaport). Matinees are cheaper. Off-Broadway also excellent.
Pizza slice $3–5 (go to Joe's Pizza). Bagels from Russ & Daughters. Diverse cuisines: Chinatown, Koreatown, Little Italy, Flushing for authentic Chinese.
Free: Staten Island Ferry (Statue views), High Line, Brooklyn Bridge walk, many museums on certain days. Eat at markets. Accommodation expensive — book early.
Walk fast. Stand right on escalators. Don't stop in middle of sidewalks. Tip 18–20% in restaurants. The subway is safe but be aware of surroundings.
