Titletown USA — Packers, Cheese Curds & Door County's Hidden Gem
About This Guide
Green Bay is Titletown — home of the Green Bay Packers, the NFL's only community-owned franchise, and the most storied team in American football history. The city of 110,000 people punches far above its weight: Lambeau Field is a genuine sports cathedral, Door County (45 minutes north) is one of the Midwest's most beautiful destinations — a limestone peninsula jutting into Lake Michigan with cherry orchards, lighthouses, and fish boil dinners. And Wisconsin's cheese and bratwurst culture is world unto itself.
Inside the Guide
Every location is covered with practical tips, maps, and curated recommendations.
The NFL's most famous and beloved stadium — home since 1957, capacity 81,441, and the Packers Hall of Fame within. Game day on a Sunday in autumn is a bucket-list American sports experience. Tours run year-round even without a game.
A 112-km limestone peninsula with 300 miles of shoreline, 10 lighthouses, dozens of state parks, cherry and apple orchards, kayaking, wine tasting, and the famous fish boil dinner tradition — a theatrical outdoor cooking ritual.
Door County's crown jewel — 3,776 acres of bluffs, forests, and Lake Michigan shoreline. Bike trails, kayak launches, the Eagle Tower viewpoint, and incredible sunset views over Nicolet Bay.
The Fox River Waterfront Trail, the National Railroad Museum (one of America's best), the Neville Public Museum, and a revitalised restaurant and brewery scene centred on Broadway and the CityDeck walkway.

Insider Knowledge
Game day: Tailgating starts 4+ hours before kickoff — join the scene in the stadium parking lots
If you can't get game tickets, watch at a Green Bay bar — the atmosphere is still electric
Door County in July: Book accommodation 3–4 months ahead — cherry season fills every room
Fish boil: The flame-up is theatrical but the whitefish is genuinely excellent
Cheese curds: Buy from a local dairy (Widmer's, Henning's) not a souvenir shop — freshness matters
Peninsula State Park: Rent bikes in Fish Creek — the park road is car-congested in summer
Sea caves at Whitefish Dunes: Kayak tour companies run from Baileys Harbor (book ahead in summer)
Spotted Cow beer: New Glarus Brewing's flagship — only sold in Wisconsin, stock up
Practical Information
Green Bay Austin Straubel Airport (GRB) with connections via Chicago or Minneapolis. Chicago O'Hare is 3 hours by car. Car rental is essential — there's no meaningful public transport.
Regular season game tickets are nearly impossible to get (multi-year waitlist for season tickets). Check StubHub and SeatGeek. Preseason games are accessible. Tours run daily year-round from $25.
Drive the peninsula's two sides — the Green Bay side and the Lake Michigan side have different characters. Stay overnight in Fish Creek, Ephraim, or Sister Bay for the best experience.
Cheese curds (fresh, squeaky, and fried), bratwurst with Stadium Sauce, Friday night fish fry (supper clubs), Door County fish boil, local craft beer, and Spotted Cow ale from New Glarus Brewing.
Very affordable Midwest destination. Good hotels $80–150/night. Dinner $15–25. Door County slightly pricier in peak summer. Game day hotel rates spike dramatically.
Summer (June–August): Best for Door County outdoor activities. Fall (September–November): Peak foliage + Packers season. Winter is very cold (−15°C possible) but the Frozen Tundra experience is legendary.
