Practical Information
ADO buses comfortable and cheap between cities. Domestic flights for longer distances. Colectivos (shared vans) in Yucatan. Mexico City metro excellent.
Teotihuacan (Mexico City), Chichén Itzá (most visited), Tulum (sea views), Palenque (jungle), Monte Albán (Oaxaca). Go early — tour buses arrive by 10 am.
Day of the Dead (Nov 1–2). Lucha libre wrestling. Cooking classes. Mezcal/tequila tastings. Indigenous markets. Traditional dance shows.
Street tacos $1–2. Mole negro in Oaxaca. Cochinita pibil in Yucatan. Pozole, tamales, fresh seafood on both coasts. Mezcal is life.
Very affordable. Nice hotels $30–80. Meals $5–15. Beer $2–3. Beaches free. ADO buses cheap. Great value throughout.
Generally safe in tourist areas. Avoid displaying wealth. Use ATMs inside banks. Don't drink tap water. Travel during daylight hours for road journeys.
