The Harbour City — World's Greatest Urban Setting
About This Guide
Sydney is arguably the world's most beautiful harbour city — the Opera House and Harbour Bridge form one of architecture's greatest duets, framed by 240 km of natural harbour. Bondi Beach is iconic, the Blue Mountains are extraordinary, and the city's food scene is world-class. Sydney is Australia's gateway city and rewards visitors who stay longer than a few days to discover its diverse neighbourhoods.
Inside the Guide
Every location is covered with practical tips, maps, and curated recommendations.
Jørn Utzon's 1973 masterpiece is as astonishing close up as it is at distance. Tours run daily. A performance inside is a bucket-list experience. Circular Quay is the transport hub.
The 6-km Bondi to Coogee coastal walk is Sydney's most spectacular — sea pools, ocean cliffs, and local suburbs far from the tourist trail. Icebergs pool at Bondi is iconic.
The 3.5-hour climb to the summit of the Harbour Bridge (134 m) provides the most extraordinary 360° view of Sydney — expensive but genuinely unforgettable.
90 minutes from Sydney — the Three Sisters rock formation, Scenic World (world's steepest railway), Leura village, and the vast forested canyon of the Greater Blue Mountains UNESCO park.
