Excellent intercity trains (CP) and Rede Expressos buses. Lisbon and Porto have good urban transport. Rent car for Algarve and inland areas.
30-minute train from Lisbon Rossio station. Book Pena Palace tickets online in advance. Allow a full day — it's worth it.
Authentic fado (melancholic folk music) is best heard in Alfama, Lisbon. Clubs perform from 9 pm. A UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
