About This Guide

Practical Information
Marshrutka minibuses connect most destinations cheaply. Rent car or hire driver for mountains. Tbilisi metro simple and cheap.
Hike 3 hours from Kazbegi village or hire a 4WD. Go in morning before clouds cover the mountains. Dress modestly as it's an active church.
Georgians are legendary hosts. Tamada (toast master) tradition at feasts (supra) is an art form. Never refuse a toast — it's deeply impolite.
Khachapuri (cheese bread), khinkali (dumplings — bite then suck the broth), churchkhela, mtsvadi (BBQ), and natural orange wines.
One of Europe's cheapest destinations. Meals €3–8. Excellent wine €3–6 a bottle. Tbilisi accommodation €30–60 for good quality.
