Hindu island in a predominantly Muslim country. Daily offerings (canang sari) everywhere. Temple ceremonies constant. Dress modestly with sarong.
Nasi goreng, mie goreng, satay, babi guling (Balinese roast suckling pig), gado-gado. Warungs (local eateries) cheapest and most authentic.
Very affordable. Meals $2–5 at warungs. Nice hotels $30–80. Scooter rental $5/day. Massages $7–12. Indonesian destinations are great value.
Visa on arrival ($35). Bring sarong for temples. Bargain at markets. Don't drink tap water. Travel insurance essential. Bali Belly is a real risk.
